In his testimony as a military veteran and owner of the No. 1 Information Technology
8(a) business in the Nation, Tony Jimenez spoke of MicroTech's positive experience contracting with the VA, commented on the recent VA rule offering additional special preference to Veteran-Owned Business, and made recommendations on ways to improve the process. Tony has testified multiple times before Congress, offering his insights on set-aside programs as a Federal contractor, the last time in April.
On the topic of enforcing Veteran-Owned Business eligibility rules, Tony stated in the Congressional record, "Take the handcuffs off the Small Business Administration (SBA) and allow them to rigidly enforce eligibility. The GAO recommended that the SBA work to develop penalties that would prohibit companies from obtaining Federal work if they...knowingly misrepresent their status as a Veteran-Owned Small Business. Last week's new VA rule seems to address the potential fraud issues at the agency. ...Vendors could get away with self-certifying the accuracy of their information. Now as part of the VetBiz application process, VA officials must step in and verify eligibility."
